SKYLINE MONTEREY — October 29, 2026. A drainage-design project below Skyline Ridge Road remains separately traceable in Monterey’s 2026 capital-program files. The city listed $149,711 in an available project balance for NCP2426, Lower Wyndemere Canyon Drainage, in its January 21 review of older neighborhood improvement work.
Upper and lower canyon are not the same project
The project card describes design work for the lower portion of Wyndemere Canyon, below Skyline Ridge Road. It says the upper portion above Skyline Drive had already been completed and could be seen from Skyline Ridge Road. Residents should distinguish that completed upper-area feature from the lower section whose design was being tracked in this proposal.
The city also has a different Upper Wyndemere Creek log-drop repair proposal, NIP2307, between Skyline Drive and Scenic Road. Despite the similar creek name, the projects carry separate records and balances. The Lower Canyon entry is specifically a design initiative, not evidence that construction crews were already working downstream in 2026.
Why lower-canyon drainage matters
Drainage design helps planners assess how stormwater moves through a hillside corridor and what measures might protect roads and nearby property. The city’s card rates the lower-canyon item as high complexity. Its earlier project voting result was 82 votes, ranked 25th. Those historical counts do not measure current flood or landslide danger.
Was its budget removed?
The January NCIP packet placed the $149,711 balance on a list of projects the city was considering while addressing a structural deficit. Being on that review list does not by itself establish a final cut, construction start or environmental approval. Residents can ask for the most recent engineering status and any subsequent Council appropriation under NCP2426.
