SKYLINE MONTEREY — October 29, 2026. The Upper Wyndemere Creek drainage corridor between Skyline Drive and Scenic Road is the site of a long-standing erosion-control proposal that reached Monterey’s January 2026 review of unused or inactive neighborhood-improvement budgets. The city’s published balance for NIP2307 was $673,625.
What does a “log drop” repair involve?
City project records describe repairing or replacing existing log-drop structures intended to manage stream gradient and reduce sediment movement. The work also calls for stabilizing eroded ground around the structures. Those are creek-bank and stormwater-protection activities—not a new walking bridge or a proposal to drain Wyndemere Creek. The project’s original community-priority tally was 104 votes, ranking seventh in its original cycle.
Why this matters to Skyline residents
In a steep neighborhood, concentrated runoff can destabilize slopes and wash material into downstream areas. The city marked the proposal as high complexity, meaning residents should not expect it to be as simple as routine park landscaping. The official inventory does not quantify a 2026 flood risk, guarantee a flood will occur, or establish the project’s engineering outcome.
Where the project stood in the budget review
When the NCIP Committee was directed to consider potential fund reallocations in January, NIP2307 appeared among previously funded projects with incomplete or inactive work. The $673,625 was an account balance available for consideration, not proof that it was paid to a contractor or formally canceled. Later Council decisions would be needed to verify any reallocation.
The separate Lower Wyndemere Canyon drainage design is another Skyline project, NCP2426, with a different location and purpose. This report only covers the upper log-drop structures.
